📌 About the speaker:
Suchart Klaikaew is the Program Lead for Innovation Regions for a Just Energy Transition (IKI JET) Thailand and an experienced Just Energy Transition Expert. He leads the Just Energy Transition initiative in Thailand and coordinates IKI JET’s efforts in coal regions, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Chile, Colombia, and South Africa, at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Germany’s main development agency. His responsibilities include providing technical assistance for just transition plans, promoting sustainable economies, developing policy tools, and facilitating regional community engagement and global policy dialogues.
Suchart also served as the Secretary for the Sub-committee on Coal Phase-Out for a Just Transition in Thailand under the Standing Committee on Energy, as well as for Economic Development through Green Industry Transformation under the Standing Committee on Economic Development. His experience in leading the development of decarbonization roadmaps for energy, transportation, and hard-to-abate sectors focuses on integrating CCUS, hydrogen, and renewables into the energy mix. Additionally, he provides technical guidance on optimizing energy solutions and infrastructure, including system modelling for flexibility and the repurposing of coal-fired power plants in Southeast Asia.
Previously, Suchart worked as an energy consultant across the Asia-Pacific region, specializing in energy market analysis, renewable energy policies, and the phase-out of fossil fuels. He also has expertise in energy transition policy development, community projects, and education across Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States.
